For safety reasons, we recommend a thickness of not more than 2.5cm. A thicker pad makes it easier for children to climb out of the playpen and also means a heavier load. .

On a personal note, we bought another local brand of latex mattress which was slightly cheaper for our baby.  Bad, bad choice.  Within a year, the latex had settled and shrunk.  Now the mattress, when put in the cot, has a perimeter of about 1 inch from every side and is definitely much thinner too.
